KCC carries out diver surveys of rubble mound revetments and armour stone structures to assess stability, identify displaced stones, and detect void formation beneath the armour layer. Results are used to plan maintenance and identify areas requiring reinstatement.
Displaced armour stones leave the underlying filter layer and core exposed to wave attack — leading to progressive erosion and eventual failure of the revetment. Regular surveys allow displacement to be identified and stones reinstated before the situation deteriorates.
