KCC provides in-situ concrete encapsulation and jacketing for deteriorated marine structural elements — piles, outfall pipes, seawall faces, and submerged beams — where corrosion, spalling, or section loss has reduced structural capacity. Encapsulation restores the original section, provides a new concrete cover to the reinforcement, and significantly extends the service life of the structure.
KCC's divers install formwork around the deteriorated element, place reinforcement cages or mesh as specified, and place concrete by tremie or pump to fill the annular space between the existing structure and the new formwork. The formwork is stripped after curing and the surface inspected for voids and honeycombing. Anti-corrosion coating is applied to the completed encapsulation where specified.
Compliance: Concrete mix design and placement follows BS EN 206 and BS 8500 for marine exposure class XS3. Diving operations comply with IMCA D 045 and HSE Diving at Work Regulations 1997.
Concrete encapsulation is one of the most durable and cost-effective methods of restoring structural capacity to deteriorated marine members. A well-executed encapsulation can add 25–40 years to the service life of a pile or outfall — deferring the far greater cost of full replacement.
