What is Geotextile & Filter Layer Installation?

KCC installs geotextile filter layers and granular bedding underwater as the foundation for rock armour and revetment systems. Correct installation of the filter layer is critical to the long-term performance of the scour protection — preventing fine material from migrating through the armour layer.

What's Included

Seabed preparation and levelling prior to geotextile installation
Diver-assisted placement and securing of geotextile panels
Overlapping and pinning of geotextile joints to prevent migration
Placement of granular filter layer over geotextile where specified
Diver inspection to confirm correct placement before rock armour placement

Why This Matters

Without a correctly installed filter layer, fine seabed material can migrate through rock armour under wave and current action — progressively undermining the protection and leading to settlement and failure. KCC's dive team ensures geotextile layers are correctly placed and secured before armour placement.
