KCC installs temporary cofferdam systems to create dry or dewatered working areas for intertidal and submerged construction and repair works. Sheet pile cofferdams, proprietary modular cofferdam systems, and temporary inflatable/rubber dam systems are deployed depending on the site geometry, water depth, tidal range, and duration of works.
KCC's commercial divers handle all below-waterline works: driving or jetting sheet piles into the seabed, installing walings and tie rods, placing underwater concrete or grout seals at the base of the cofferdam, and monitoring for leakage during dewatering. Once the cofferdam is sealed, KCC operates the dewatering plant to lower the water level to the required working datum. On completion of the enclosed works, KCC removes the cofferdam and reinstates the seabed.
Compliance: Cofferdam design is carried out by a Registered Structural Engineer. All diving operations are conducted under IMCA D 045 and HSE Diving at Work Regulations 1997. Works are planned in accordance with the Hong Kong Construction Industry Council (CIC) safety guidelines for confined and intertidal works.
A watertight, properly dewatered cofferdam allows construction and repair works to be carried out in the dry — dramatically improving quality, safety, and programme certainty compared to in-the-wet alternatives. KCC manages the full cycle from installation through to removal.
