Coral Baseline Survey — Establishing Reference Conditions Before Construction

What is Coral Baseline Survey?

KCC carries out pre-works baseline surveys of coral communities using standard transect and point-intercept methods to establish reference conditions before marine construction commences. Baseline surveys are required by EPD as a condition of environmental permits for marine construction works.

What's Included

  • Diver survey of coral communities using standard transect or point-intercept methods
  • Recording of coral species, coverage, and health status
  • HD video and still photography of coral communities
  • Mapping of coral distribution within the survey area
  • Formal baseline survey report for regulatory submission

Why This Matters

Environmental regulators require baseline surveys before marine construction commences — and without this data, it is impossible to assess the impact of construction activities or demonstrate compliance with environmental conditions. KCC's baseline surveys provide the documented reference data needed for regulatory compliance.
